Clean Air at Humboldt County Fair!
The Humboldt County Fairgrounds is smoke-free, except
for two designated areas, and in the grandstands.
The smoke-free policy
was established after the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors passed
an ordinance prohibiting smoking within 30 feet of any county building.
The fairgrounds in Ferndale are the property of the County of Humboldt,
managed by the non-profit Humboldt County Fair Association since
1986.
"This family-friendly
policy makes the fair a healthier place for everyone, especially
children," said the Fair's General Manager, Stuart Titus. Several
other fairs in California now have smoke-free outdoor areas, including
Cal Expo in Sacramento, Amador County Fair and the San Joaquin County
Fair." Public support for
clean outdoor air is growing, as fewer and fewer people smoke. Currently,
only 18% of California adults smoke, while 85% prefer dining in a
smoke-free area.
The Paddock Lawn area and Grandstand
Sections D and E have been designated as areas
where smoking is permitted.
